Happy new year!
Do you celebrate the upcoming year on New Year’s Eve or mourn the ending of the old one?
Good Question! Well, this year I’m excited for 2016 because 2015 SUCKED, but I’m pretty sure I say that every year. I haven’t partied on New Year’s for over ten years, so I can’t say I celebrate. I can’t even stay up to midnight, which is sad too.
A New Year means starting fresh, right? Well, I hope so because that is what I do, organize for the next year. I’m always so organized the first month of the year, but then it just goes downhill by the end of the year.
I mourn the year and reflect on all the bad things but never actually reflect on the good things, so my daughter and I made a JAR of Memories. We first put our goals in there, and also we will be putting sticky notes of FUN, EXCITING, and worth saving events from 2016. Then on Dec 31st, we will read our goals and see if we were able to accomplish all of them. Also, we will take turns reading all the sticky notes and reflect on our memories. So maybe in 2016, we will celebrate and not mourn since we have notes to remind of all the GOOD that happened in 2016.
We found the idea of the jar on Pinterest: http://seeingsunshine.com/2015/01/07/new-year-memory-jar/
Here is our Memory Jar:
To make it easier, I attached post-it notes with a huge paperclip to the jar plus added a pen, so there are NO EXCUSES. Then at the end of the year after reading them, you put in a zip lock bag and write the year on the bag then store away for the future. Memories are important and keep them alive by writing them down so next year you won’t MOURN but CELEBRATE.
Comment and let me know…. do you MOURN or CELEBRATE the New Year?
