Good Question…but what about if you work from home. My home and work are combined plus there are no limits. Which is not good, at all. I need to set limits. More family and less work! I can work all day because the work is never ending but I need to balance with family too.
Here are the limits I’m going to work on:
Limit Distractions and Time Wasters:
Limit: Set time limits when checking email or being online. I need to schedule phone calls. Also, TV watching happens during lunch time and at night. TV is off during the day. When I’m out with the kids, I need to give them my attention so I will try harder not to check my phone while we are doing something together. The email will be there later.
Create Family Fun:
Limit: No phones during family time. As a family, we decided we need a weekly Family Game Night…Saturday! We all said no phones; just time spent together. Also, 2x a month we will be going bowling, movie, hiking or just a day trip.
Limit: Don’t make excuses just go! Spending time with family is important but so is spending one on one with my husband. He needs to be a priority, too. We have decided to go for coffee once a week, to talk about family issues and our relationship.
Limit: Don’t let family disrupt my time. I need this time to rejuvenate. My daughter is homeschooled and I barely get a minute to myself, but I need it. So I’m scheduling some ME TIME during the week. I will go into my room and read or draw.
Create and Organize a Family Calendar:
Limit: Don’t overschedule! Setting aside 15-30 minutes each Sunday to review and prepare for the upcoming week’s schedule. Have a calendar that you can put both work/family events in it. I’m going to color code- family (red) and work (blue). I’m the type of person who needs organization, and if I don’t have it, then I go crazy. I’m also going to set up a Family Command Center where the kids can put things I need to sign/do, keys, and other important family stuff. Keep my family papers away from work papers.
Balance and Limits will help with my chaos this year!
Let me know what limits do you have!
